Wisma Geylang Serai (WSG), a 5-storey building, is located within the Kallang Formation, which consists of thick marine clay. WSG stands on what used to be the former Malay Village.
WSG’s design weighs in on a number challenges, arising from difficult ground conditions to the iconic double-pitched roof. The double-pitched roof is influenced by traditional Malay houses and complements the adjacent Geylang Serai Market. The roof is made of structural steel, which gives the iconic double-pitched look. The steel frame of the roof consists of modular frames, which improves the ease and safety of installation.
WSG’s internal link bridges, which span across the various open spaces, are made of structural steel. Linking both WSG and Geylang Serai Market is a link bridge, which improves accessibility and connectivity.
The building was completed in 2018 and officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong in January 2019.
